Medium-heavy woven fabrics are ideal for a structured bag, but you could also interface lightweight fabrics to make them sturdier. Cotton canvas, oilcloth, soft leather, denim, sateen, jacquard, sturdy cottons and linens are all ideal.
- Your fabric
- Medium weight fusible interfacing to give structure to lighter fabrics
- A length of ribbon to fasten your bag, OR a magnetic snap fastener (optional)
- Appropriate machine needles for the fabric you're working with
- Matching thread
- Tape measure
- Pattern paper - dot and cross or Swedish tracing paper
- Patternmaster or French Curve
- Your usual tools and sewing supplies
